The new PR pathway - Australia Subclass 491 Visa
Aspiring candidates seeking to apply for Australia PR Visa from India have a new pathway now – the Australia Subclass 491 Visa. Application Steps for the Subclass 491 Visa
The Subclass 491 Visa application consists of several steps. It involves among others confirming the inclusion of the occupation in the SOL - Skilled Occupation List, arranging the required documents, and obtaining an assessment of your skills.
The application steps are:
Step 1
Skilled Occupation List
You have to confirm if your chosen occupation is included in the Skilled Occupation List that is published by the Government of Australia every year.
Step 2
Skills Assessment
You have to obtain an assessment of your skills from the applicable organizations in Australia.
Step 3
Points System
The Government of Australia has adopted a system of points for 491 Subclass Visa. You have to obtain at least 65 points in order to receive the invitation.
Step 4
Expression of Interest
You have to submit the EOI - Expression of Interest through the Skill Select portal addressed to the DHA - Department of Home Affairs. The portal will assess your EOI and offer points based on the information you have provided. You can proceed to the next step only if you secure a minimum of 65 points.
Step 5
Submission of Supporting Documents
The DHA will ask you to file the application after it accepts your EOI. The required supporting documents have to be filed within 2 months. It is advisable that you arrange the documents well in advance.
The documents have to be submitted through the Immi Account. You have to make payment of the required fees and submit all documents within 60 days.
Step 6
Tracking application status
After you submit the application and acceptance by DHA, it will send you an email for logging into your Immi Account and tracking your application status.

Step 7: Receiving acceptance
You will receive an e-mail specifying your Visa grant number if your application is accepted. It will also have the day your Visa starts and the Terms and Conditions associated with your Visa.
The validity of the Subclass 491 Visa is 5 years with no extension offered. But after completing 3 years of residence in Australia on the Visa you can file an application for the PR Visa if you have fulfilled the required conditions.
